QWERTY Web

My oldest recovered game

A game I made with Construct in 2011: rescue gardeners, cross traffic, solve puzzles, and face a giant squid. The oldest of my games I could recover.

QWERTY WebArticles

I made QWERTY Web in 2011 using Construct. It's the oldest of my games I could recover, and you can still play it in the browser on itch.io.

In December 2023 I put together this short tour of the game. It keeps the hand-drawn characters, odd puzzles, and giant squid intact.

Rescuing the gardeners

The main menu has gardeners falling from the sky while watching the cursor. In the game, two heroes have to rescue gardeners trapped behind a restaurant.

They cross heavy traffic, collect keys, and solve puzzles. One puzzle involves going through a wall, pressing a button, and opening a door. A photograph of a dog is a weapon against the robots.

The final level asks you to click as fast as possible, reach a fortress, dodge bullets with your own bullets, and defeat a giant squid. In the video I call it the deadliest enemy I've designed.

Keeping the game

Construct let me export the game to HTML5. The recovered version is on itch.io, so the footage can sit alongside the game itself.

This is one surviving piece of that earlier work. Later games include Perro Waton and Oso Sigiloso.

Ideas that went wrong while making games. Part 1. It was 2011 when I found a web application called Construct that lets you make games in minutes and export them in HTML5, ready for the web. This time, my game is called QWERTY Web. The main menu consists of gardeners falling from the sky while watching the cursor. The idea was simple. We have two heroes who must rescue gardeners trapped behind a restaurant. They must cross the heavy traffic and solve puzzles like this one, which involves going through a wall, pressing a button and opening a door. Using a photo of the dog, you can defend yourself from attacking robots. And finally, you have to collect the keys to rescue the gardeners. And in the third and final level, our heroes once again face the robots. This time, you'll have to click as fast as you can, cross over to the fortress, dodge bullets with your own bullets and defeat the giant squid. The deadliest enemy I've designed.
